Beneficiar­ies of city’s social pension starts at 60 years old

THE 19th Davao City Council has amended the annual social pension to senior citizens, from only 65 years old and above, the assistance will now also include those 60 years old and above.

The Council passed on third and final reading an ordinance amending Ordinance No. 0105-19 granting annual assistance to all qualified senior citizens in the city.

Councilor Wilberto Al-ag, committee chair on social service and ordinance proponent, said the ordinance aims to support the senior citizens in the cost of their maintenanc­e for medicines and other expenses relative to their health.

“We’ve been receiving requests from the senior citizens, verbally, whose age range from 60 to 64 years old to include them in the recipient of the senior citizens annual financial assistance,” Al-ag said.

The ordinance states that all qualified seniors are entitled to a financial assistance of P1,500 annually.

Qualified beneficiar­ies must be at least 60 years old within the calendar year starting 2022.

They must be a holder of an original Senior Citizens Identifica­tion Card issued by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in the city.

Also, they must be a registered voter of Davao City as evidenced by the list of registered voters issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), except those senior citizens aged 75 years old and above who are not registered voters, provided that they have a certificat­e of residency of at least five years issued by the barangay where they are residing.
