OUTGOING Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will have her oath taking as vice president in the city at the San Pedro Street tentatively on June 19.

Duterte-Carpio bared this in a radio interview on Monday, May 23, adding that the scheduled date might still change considering that there is still no formal declaration on her winning.

The mayor declined to provide other specific details, including the time of the ceremony.

“Wala pa tay details (We do not have additional details), pending the proclamation since lisod kaayo... magbuhat og mga detalye unya dili diay kita ang nidaog nga (it would be hard to provide additional details, and in the end, it wasn’t me who won as) vice president, except we already penciled June 19 as a date for oath taking,” she said in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.

Duterte-Carpio also said that they cannot send out invitations to her event, including to her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, without the proclamation.

As of writing, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has not yet mentioned any tentative dates on the possible date of proclamation for both president and vice president. Comelec on Friday, May 20, formally proclaimed the winning 12 senators, while the winning partylists are expected to be proclaimed this week.

Duterte-Carpio and her running mate, presumptive President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. are currently leading in the electoral race.

Meanwhile, the mayor clarified that the proclamation, which would be conducted in Congress, will be done in Manila, and is different from the inauguration or oath taking.

She also clarified that despite the oath taking scheduled at an earlier date, she would still assume the vice presidency on 12 noon of June 30.

Duterte-Carpio, in her latest interview, said she did not consider any other place for her oath taking, except in Davao City, the place where she served as local chief executive for three non-consecutive terms.

“Wala ta gi-consider nga laing lugar [for the oathtaking], sa Davao City lang gyud (We did not consider other places. I only have Davao City in mind) because Dabawenyos helped and taught me so many things, and made me the public servant that I am today. So I want to give that honor diri sa mga taga-Davao nga ma-witness nila ang (to those people in Davao to witness the) oathtaking,” the outgoing mayor said.

Following the proclamation, the mayor also said this would also mark the commencement of the transition phase of her camp in the Office of the Vice President, and Department of Education (DepEd).

Wala pa tay details, pending the proclamation since lisod kaayo... magbuhat og mga detalye unya dili diay kita ang nidaog nga vice president, except we already penciled June 19 as a date for oath taking.
