- BY KRIZZY S. DAUGDAUG

A POLICE official said some rape cases are happening inside motels.

PMaj. Antonio Luy, Station Commander, PS18 Bajada Police Station of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said during an interview on Davao City Disaster Radio on May 19, 2023, that within their area of responsibility, rape cases usually happen in motels.

“Mag-meet up tapos magabot sila sa usa ka motel, pagka-morning naa na sila sa station kay na-rape kuno sila (They will meet-up at a motel. The next day, the victim will report that they were raped),” Luy said.

He said most of the perpetrators are acquaintances of the victims.

“Naa gihapon ta’y mga rape cases diri sa Bajada Police Station, but basi sa atong analysis diri more on acquaintance, managkaila nga nag-inom kay ang atong area of responsibility is highly urbanized (We have encountered rape cases within the area of the Bajada Police Station. Based on our analysis, people involved were acquaintances who have gone out to drink),” he said.

Luy added that the large motels and bars are located within the city center. Hence, there is the risk of someone being raped.

He said they have also observed a new trend of suspects using social media to lure victims.

“Isa ni sa mga gina-konsidera sa Davao City Police Office nga pagabuhatan og lakang ug study (The Davao City Police Office is currently looking into this),” he added.

According to the data provided by the Police Region Office-Davao to SunStar Davao, from January 1 to April 29, 2023, a total of 128 rape cases were reported in the entire region.

Out of 128 rape cases, 76 of the victims were students, 32 were unknown, and 11 were not employed.

Naa gihapon ta’y mga rape cases diri sa Bajada Police Station, but basi sa atong analysis diri more on acquaintance, managkaila nga nag-inom kay ang atong area of responsibility is highly urbanized.
