CTTMO TO REGULATE TRICYCLES, BAO-BAO
CTTMO notes that many trikes operating in the city are unregistered or have no permits to operate
THE City Transport and Traffic Management Office aims to regulate tricycles and similar vehicles operating in the city especially when the High Priority Bus System (HPBS) will be implemented in the city.
“I-regulate na siya… dili na [sila] matagaan og prangkisa o i-rehistro sa atong opisina kung kining linya sa mga bao-bao is apektado sa atong HPBS (We will be regulating them, they will not be given new franchises if we see the route of these bao-baos will be affected by the upcoming HPBS project),” CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said in an interview with the media, May 22.
Abude said to regulate the number of tricycles, the City Council’s Committee on Transportation and Communications chairperson councilor Conrado Baluran had filed a city ordinance to temporarily suspend giving franchises to tricycle drivers.
“Bisag asa sa Davao, daghan pod og bao-bao, so kana sya ginatanaw nato na… kung pipila lang gyud ka mga tricycle apil ang bao-bao na mobyahe sa usa ka lugar (Wherever you are in Davao, you see a lot of bao-baos, that’s what we are planning and determining, if what should be the limit of these type of vehicles in a certain place),” Abude said.
Abude said there have been “too many” tricycles operating within the city, and most of them are unregistered, especially in Calinan and Toril districts.
Tricycles must register with the CTTMO’s Motorized Vehicle Franchising and Regulatory Division yearly.
He mentioned Toril and Calinan districts have more tricycles operating on the road than usual.
“Mao nang dapat i-implement nato ang regulation [sa mga baobao] tungod sa kadaghan sa mga barangay daghan kaayong area (As soon as the ordinance will be approved by the council, we need to implement regulations for these bao-bao as they crowd our barangays),” Abude said.
Meanwhile, Abude said that they are continuously ticketing illegal tricycle and bao-bao drivers who are caught with no licenses, no plate numbers, and other road violations
“In fact naa gani tay one time operation diri sa may Tulip Drive, nakadakop mi og 60 ka buok, pero nangayo mi og tabang sa PNP (We have a one time operation in Tulip Drive when the CTTMO had ticketed 60 tricycles with the help of the Philippine National Police),” the official said.
