- BY JULIE AR SIBALA, University of Immaculate Conception

BEING a working student is a challenging yet rewarding experience many individuals undertake. It involves balancing work and school responsibilities, which can be overwhelming at times, but it also provides unique opportunities for personal growth and development.

One of the most significant advantages of being a working student is gaining valuable work experience while still in school. Many employers value work experience as much as academic qualifications and demonstrating that you can balance the demands of work and school activities that you have committed to and are responsible for. Additionally,

working while studying can help offset tuition and living expenses, which can be a significant financial burden for many students.

However, being a working student also comes with some difficulties. One of the biggest challenges is managing time effectively. Balancing the demands of work and school can be overwhelming, and it can be easy to fall behind on assignments or neglect work responsibilities. Additionally, being a working student can lead to burnout, requiring significant energy and focus on excelling in both areas.

To manage the workload effectively, it is essential to prioritize and plan ahead. This means setting clear goals for both work and school and creating a schedule that allows for adequate time to complete tasks and assignments. It is also helpful to seek support from classmates, professors, or coworkers who can offer guidance and advice.

Another essential aspect of being a working student is maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

This means making time for self-care, such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with family and friends. These areas must be addressed to avoid exhaustion and decreased productivity, ultimately hurting work and academic performance.

In conclusion, being a working student can be a challenging yet rewarding experience. It provides valuable work experience, helps offset tuition and living expenses, and demonstrates commitment and responsibility at an early stage. However, it also requires effective time management, prioritization, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. With careful planning and support, it is possible to excel in both areas and achieve personal and professional success.
