4 ESTABLISHMENTS VIOLATE LIQUOR BAN, ANTI-SMOKING ORDINANCE

- BY IAN CARL ESPINOSA

FOUR establishments were apprehended for violating anti-smoking and liquor ban ordinances, by the Davao City’s Vices Regulation Unit (VRU).

VRU officer-in-charge PCol. Hernando Q. Las mentioned that establishments which violated the aforementioned city ordinances are bars located in Lanang, Narra Street, Jacinto Street, and in Marfori Road within January to April 2023.

He added as of the moment, only two bars remained closed as the other two located on Marfori Road and Jacinto Street had complied needed requirements to the city’s Business Bureau.

As far as VRU’s office is concerned, Las said their mandate is to recommend to the Business Bureau to close establishments’ operations if they commit violations.

The official also said that during a surprise inspection together with the San Pedro Police this year, they had fined around 60 violators with P3,000 each.

“Mostly continuous man ang among follow-up ana sa katong naga-violate lang, kay usahay maabtan mig buntag ana, ug halos kauban ra pod namo ang pulis kay ang pulis sila na ga-condone ana (For several times now, we work together with the police in their operations, and we are continuously following up on establishments to rectify their violations against the anti-smoking and liquor ban ordinances),” Las said.

“Kami ga-issue lang mi og citation ticket (We can only issue citation tickets to violators),” he added.

Meanwhile, the official said around “80 percent” had successfully complied with the city’s anti-smoking and liquor ban ordinance.

Las said the other 20 percent are being inspected closely by VRU and Business Bureau.

Under the City Ordinance 004-30, the city prohibits the selling and serving of alcoholic drinks from 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Ordinance No. 0367-12, Series of 2012, otherwise known as “The New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of Davao City” had prohibited Dabawenyos to smoke in public places except in establishments’ designated smoking areas.

Mostly continuous man ang among follow-up ana sa katong naga-violate lang, kay usahay maabtan mig buntag ana, ug halos kauban ra pod namo ang pulis kay ang pulis sila na ga-condone ana.
