BAYANIHAN DURING DISASTERS
DepEd-Tagum City distributes food packs, relief goods to flood-affected families
WITH the torrential rain devastating most of Mindanao these past days, Department of Education (DepEd)-Tagum teachers and other stakeholders have demonstrated once more the spirit of volunteerism and bayanihan as they pulled together resources like food packs and relief goods for evacuees staying in the schools and those stranded families on their homes.
The bayanihan was formed through the collaboration of the dedicated teachers, who have gone beyond the call of duty to assist, the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), community helpers and professionals, LGU, Barangay Personnel, Red Cross, Rotary Club of Tagum North, LYR Group of Companies, Rubio Memorial Services, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Girl Scouts of the Philippines and private individuals were shown through the community outreach program.
The team handed food packs, water, and other basic necessities to the victims. They come together and traverse the severely flooded streets of Barangay Pagsabangan, San Miguel, Cuambogan, Busaon, Canocotan, Bincungan, Liboganon, Madaum and San Agustin, the most devastated barangay.
Indeed, cooperation has shone brightly. Among those at the forefront of this collective effort are the city’s dedicated teachers, alongside various other groups. Despite the challenges posed by the flooding, these educators have not hesitated to lend a helping hand in these difficult times.
In times of adversity, let us draw inspiration from the example of these volunteers and strive to emulate their spirit of unity, compassion, and solidarity. Truly, bayanihan is the power of the community to heal the hearts of the victims. /
