NGCP builds more structures for host communities

-

Continuing its effort of building key facilities for public schools, NGCP once again completed the construction of a covered court for Sapsap Elementary School in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija. Inaugurated on March 24, 2014, the 126- square meter structure will serve as the convening and activity area for the local school.

Done in partnership with the local government unit of Sta. Rosa, NGCP shouldered the cost of the materials used in building the covered court. The building will replace the tarpaulins and bamboo they used as improvised roofing during the school’s graduation ceremonies and other activities. Completed five months after its ground breaking, the multi- purpose hall will also serve as activity area and evacuation sites for the residents of Brgy. Sapsap in times of calamities. Barangay Sapsap, which is one of the communities which suffered the onslaught of Typhoon Santi late last year, was also thankful for the assistance given by NGCP.

“Just like the multipurpose halls we constructed in Sorsogon and Pangasinan, this covered court will not only benefit the school, but the rest of Brgy. Sapsap as well. NGCP is honored to be a partner of the LGU of Sta. Rosa in providing the community’s basic need,” said Nelson Cabangon, Head of NGCP’s Corporate Affairs group.

Present in the inauguration were Sta. Rosa Mayor Otep Angeles, Barangay Sapsap Chairman Victor Sarabia and Sapsap Elementary School Principal Criselda Gracia.

Brgy. Sapsap serves as host to one of NGCP’s 500- kilovolt transmission backbone lines. NGCP is a privatelyowned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets.

As a corporation with a public service orientation, NGCP partners with relevant institutions to support the communities hosting its transmission facilities, which it considers as true partners in nation-building.
