The Assurance that all is well

- JOSE B. BALINGIT

Aristotle said it very well, and I quote, “The roots of education are bitter, and the fruit is sweet” that we will all encounter and experience problems first before we can achieve our dreams. These problems (roots) of education should not hinder us, but shape us instead to the achievement (fruit) of our dreams. It has been long believed that whatever we go through will be rewarded with triumph if only we try of our hardest and our do our best.

Education is necessary to everyone. It is impossible for anyone to imagine a world without schools; no matter how much we hate waking up early, studying all night for quizzes and summative tests, practicing group presentations, solving Math problems, memorizing subject-verb agreement for English, and doing laboratory work for Science – there just has to be an institution where we learn what we need to learn.

However, this does not mean that an educated man will surely do well in his life or that only the educated succeeds in his endeavors; exceptions are always there. In general, people who receive minimal education are probably headed to a long, torturous career serving soft serves at a fast food joint. That’s a common perception, at the very least. But John Rockefeller, who is probably the richest man in history, is a high school drop out. It is pretty safe to say that there is no denying the fact that success sometimes depends on which path we take. One may be educated, but if he thinks of himself too high and if he isn’t willing to be like a cup of tea that’s always waiting for a refill, life would become too stagnant for success. Your positive attitude towards the things that life offers should be directly proportional to the advancement of your education.

The world is moving really fast. Everything has changed. New technologies keep coming up – and without education, it would be difficult for one to enjoy the fast-paced, constantly challenging world that they offer. Our plates are full of advanced technologies that make things that our ancestors couldn’t even have imagined possible. Again, we should appreciate our education more because it has gifted us with ideas that we apply practically in everything in life that makes the world a better place to live. Because we are educated members of the society, we know it is our responsibility to make positive changes for the generations yet to come – just as our forefathers knew that they should pass their discoveries on and on until they reach us.

Success isn’t rocket science; it has to be worked hard for. Education makes us confident that what’s ahead of us maybe bigger and more challenging, but we’re equipped and we’re more than ready for the tests we need to face. When life throws us difficulties, education gives us the assurance that we will be fine. In the end, all is well when we’re educated.
