Jeron Teng anticipates 'special' Finals against Ateneo
DThe Blue Eagles escaped with a hardfought 69-68 win over the defending champion Far Eastern University (FEU) to book their seat in the Finals on Wednesday, one week after La Salle sealed their own Finals berth with a 69-64 win over Adamson University.
It will be the first time in eight years that the arch-rivals will face off in the Finals. Back in Season 71, a Chris Tiu-led Ateneo team defeated the Green Archers for the first of five straight titles.
"This is going to be special, because personally, I'm trying to give La Salle a championship in my final year," said Teng, who was the Finals MVP when the Green Archers won it all back in Season 76.
"I need to do whatever it takes – same with the whole team," he said.
That they are facing off against their archrivals is just added motivation for the Green Archers, who are aching to avenge their lone loss of the elimination round – a 7183 setback to Ateneo back on November 5.
"Maganda rin na Ateneo, kasi they beat us the last game, and we have something to prove pa," said Teng.
"I think we're going to show it sa Finals," he added.
Teng will be one of the marked men for La Salle after another solid season that saw him average 16.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game despite playing only 27.4 minutes per contest – the fewest of his UAAP career.
He was the catalyst of their win over Adamson as well, scoring 25 points and taking charge in crunch time to finally put away the gritty Falcons.
