GUAGUA – The local government of Guagua, Pampanga was once again awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for the year 2016.

Aside from the prestige of being an awardee, it qualifies the town to access the Performance Challenge Fund amounting to P3,000,000.

For two consecutive years now, Guagua humbly credits the award from the unrelenting cooperation between the local government and its citizens, and aptly offers the same to the people.

The most coveted award for local government units was presented to Mayor Dante D. Torres by Rico Judge Janvier M. Echiverri, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Assistant Secretary for External and Legislative Affairs, and Florida M. Dijan, DILG Central Luzon Regional Director during the awarding ceremony held at the Fontana Convention Center, Clark Special Economic Zone in this city. Together with Mayor Torres were DILG local operations officer Magdalena S. Yonzon, Municipal Planning and Development officer Elsa B. Pantino, Municipal Treasurer Roy M. Navarro, and Diosdado Cruz of the Municipal Engineering Of f i ce.

“The SGLG award is another testimony of how the national government recognizes our efforts, both the administration and the stakeholders, specifically on how we offer and perform good governance and sincere services to the community. And we give back the dignity of the award to the people of Guagua who deserve to be served,” Torres sai d.

“At the beginning of the project, we expect that many local heavy equipment operators will be employed. Then small entrepreneurs will start sprouting near the barracks where workers stay and work,” said Deloso adding, “That is where better life begins for the residents.”

He said the project will attract new investments, including transport providers and commodity retailers, to address the needs of the expected inbounds of migrants and commuters, which are important part of the job generation

The project proponent is FWI, Inc. a locally incorporated entity based in Makati City, Philippines, with multinational affiliation and engaged in dredging business and trading of marine sand for reclamation projects.— Ric Sapnu
