Residents, motorists push for old Dau gate opening
CLARK FREEPORT — Residents and motorists are urging the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) to open the old Dau gate here to link the newly-opened Mabalacat Clark Angeles Road MCAR with the MacArthur Highway.
Dr. Oscar Aurelio, chairman of Barangay Dau and ex officio member of the city council, said that several groups asked him to reiterate this to Clark officials.
Aurelio said the residents claimed that the opening of the Dau gate, which was closed by the Philippine Air Force Clark Air Base Command PAF Cabcom after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, will solve the traffic problem in the l ocal i t y.
Traffic condition in the commercial area of Barangay Dau, city proper, and other parts of Mabalacat is deteriorating following the influx of investors and tourists in the Metro Clark area.
The City Engineer’s Office has prepared a construction plan for the integration of the MCAR and the national highway, according to Aurelio.
The village chief said the plan will be presented to Clark officials.
“Hopefully, they will consider the plan and include it in their infrastructure projects,” Aurelio said.
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade during the opening of the MCAR said that the CDC has appropriated some P2-billion for infrastructure projects.
