Truck pins 4 to death in JASA mishap

GUAGUA– A flatbed truck car­ry­ing hun­dreds of sacks of ce­ment along Jose Abad San­tos Av­enue (JASA) in Barangay San Juan Nepomuceno, this town, pinned a fam­ily of three to death on Fri­day af­ter its driver al­legedly lost con­trol of the wheel when it tried to over­take an­other ve­hi­cle.

The way­ward truck also killed a civil­ian em­ployee of the Guagua po­lice sta­tion.

The fa­tal­i­ties were iden­ti­fied as Re­gal­ado Sa­clo, a coun­cilor of Barangay Sta. Rita, Lubao, Pam­panga; Kath­lene Sa­clo, 29; Xavien Red Adriel Sa­clo, 5; and Richard Dayot.

Po­lice said five ve­hi­cles in­clud­ing two tri­cy­cles, a sil­ver Toy­ota

Altis (ZCP-906), a Toy­ota For­tuner (VC8476), and an Isuzu Trac­tor Head with flatbed trailer (RCH519) were in­volved in the ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent that hap­pened past 10:00 am.

Re­ports said that the truck car­ry­ing hun­dreds of bags of ce­ment “was cruis­ing along the speed lane of JASA when its driver, iden­ti­fied as Alexan­der Pineda of WDR In­dus­trial Cor­po­ra­tion, lost con­trol of the wheel while try­ing to over­take an­other ve­hi­cle.

Pineda al­legedly went on a sud­den brake caus­ing the truck to swerve to the op­po­site lane, hit­ting the four ve­hi­cles be­fore falling into a 15-foot deep ridge of the high­way near the San Juan Nepomuceno Bridge and landed on top of the car of the Sa­clo fam­ily.

Pineda sur­ren­dered to au­thor­i­ties of the Guagua po­lice sta­tion and is de­tained at the Guagua po­lice sta­tion pend­ing fil­ing of ap­pro­pri­ate charges.

This is the sec­ond ac­ci­dent along JASA. It could be re­mem­bered that a 16-year-old girl was killed and five oth­ers were se­ri­ously in­jured in a mul­ti­ple car col­li­sion which tran­spired in the Lubao sec­tion of JASA re­cently.
