Sino si Sinukwan?

-

The organizers of Sinukwan Festival should come up with a writing contest to trace the origin and even create a fiction on this part myth-part legend super hero.

I have asked several student participants- and their parents, too- what they knew about Sinukwan. They had zero understanding and hazy knowledge of the mythical giant.

Even Chief Sinukwan believer Fr. Resty Lumanlan, whom I asked about the origin and history of the figure being honored about big time, was tentative with his guess work explanat i on.

There being no single and credible story to support the legend, Kapampangans do not take the Sinukwan festival with gravitas. For all the efforts and resources invested into the festival, little comes of out in perpetuating the the real or fictional values of the hero.

Fr. Resty explained Sinukwan’s historical importance by the superhero’s role in fighting the Spaniards. Well I thought Sinukwan had lived in the pre-Spanish era. I think there should be colrful details to the creature’s fictional origin, some heroic acts and extraordinary feats like Samson’s strength and the power of Bernardo Carpio, another mythical figure.

To make Sinukwan a credibly realistic, and truly inspiring historical figure that will catch and hold popular attraction, Festival organizers should hold a writing contest on supposed life and times of the hero. Another idea is to commission historiographer and writer Dr. Robby Tantingco to do a research on Sinukwan to discover and recreate specific attributes on the mythical hero. From the heroic ideals and values that Dr. Robby may adduce, the Festival organizers would introduce a more patriotic, meaningful, and productive celebration than street dancing and beauty tilts. These hardly symbolize rhe concept of resilience, heroism, and courage that we ascribe to the hero. But first and foremost our friends from the Sinukwan festival should agree on one thing: Is Sinukwan a legend or a myth? ****** You cannot put a good man down. Such is the verified truth about Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang. Mayor Teddy is the first municipal mayor in the province to build a community hospital in his town. By the stroke of political quirk, he lost a reelection. With neighboring towns being served by the Mexico community hospital he has won the goodwill of 3rd District residents. Thus their merited the support which helped him win a seat as Board member.

As board member he gained projects for his town through the support of the Governor in his health, education and food production programs. In May Mejicanos recalled his good work, his honesty, and genuine spirit to serve. He won the mayoralty back.

His performance won for Mexico the DILG’s Seal of Good Housekeeping Award. More power and congratulations Mayor Teddy! ****** We sympathize with Mayor EdPam on the loss of his good friend Dr. Mario Munoz who died last week after a lingering illness. The Tigtigan Terakan will never be same again without the EENT doctor... May the Peace and Joy of Christmas be shared by the following, at least for a day:

AGRICULTURE Secretary Emmanuel “Manny”Piñol surprised many when he returned an expensive Rolex watch given to him as a Christmas gift by an agricultural company official. Piñol wasn’t the first, and wouldn’t be the last, government official to be given an expensive Christmas gift by someone from a business entity with interests in a government office.

What was uncommon was Piñol’s decision to return it and make public the gift-giving. Piñol said on his Facebook page that he resisted a temptation and returned a Rolex submariner worth P450,000, which he received during a dinner of officials of an agri company.

He said the giver was involved in activities that may require supervision by his office.

He then encouraged others in government to check their

Former Rep. Oscar Rodriguez and Cong. Aurelio Gonzales; Former Bacolor Mayor Buddy Dungca and Mayor Jomar Hizon; ExMayors Jerry Pelayo and Rene Maglanque; City Mayor Boking Morales and PNP 3 Director Aaron Aquino who has not delisted the mayor from the matrix of illegal drug suspects.
