P2-B waste to energy facility to rise in Porac
CLARK FREEPORT — A P2 billion Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility will be established in Porac town in line with local government’s solid waste management program.
Porac Mayor Condralito “Carling” Dela Cruz disclosed this during the Area-Based Management Summit For Manila Bay held at the Royce Hotel here on Wednesday.
Dela Cruz said that the facility will augment the town’s existing material recovery facilities (MRFs) used in waste segregation and recycling.
Almost all of the barangays in this town maintain their respective MRFs, according to Dela Cruz.
“The governor and I already talked about the expansion of our municipal MRF so that the waste segregation process will be maximized. Aside from this, a group of investors will put up a power plant that will convert waste into electricity,” Dela Cruz said in the vernacular.
The machinery that will be used in this technology from Czechoslovakia is capable of segregating waste by itself, according to the mayor.
The proponents of the project are eyeing Barangay Mitla as the location of the waste-to-energy plant, Dela Cruz said.
The mayor added that the project passed all the requirements of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other government agencies.
The facility can accommodate solid waste from other towns in Pampanga, Dela Cruz added.
The municipal government will generate revenues from the project in terms of taxes, shares from sales of electricity and hauling fee, the mayor said.
WTE or energy- from-waste is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/ or heat from the incineration of waste.
