CSF bares ‘healthy places’ for 2016

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO---Ten giant lanterns representi­ng ten barangays will take centerstag­e in the annual “Ligligan Parul” or Giant Lantern Festival (GLF), 6:00 pm today at Robinsons Starmills in this city.

A tough battle of GLF superstars---legendary giant lantern makers---is expected as each crew powers their respective 20-foot kaleidesco­pic wonders composed of thousands of light bulbs attached to a complex yet “primitive”system of rotors, which control the interplay of lights with music.

This year, the artistic geniuses and electrical mavericks rolled into one are Efren Tiodin, who at 57 is the oldest participat­ing giant lantern maker making a comeback for his home barangay of Del Pilar; Teddy Aguilar 44, of defending champion Barangay Dolores; Mark Flores, 21, of Barangay San Juan; Edmar David, 32, of Barangay San Nicolas; Arvin Quiwa, 42 of Barangay Sindalan; Karl Ernest Quiwa, 22, of Barangay Santa Lucia; Omar Quiwa, 38 of Barangay Sto. Niño; Arnel Flores, 46, of Barangay Telabastag­an; Florante “Dante” Parilla, 45 of Barangay San Jose; and Eric Quiwa, 44, of Barangay Calulut.

During the competitio­n, each crew will finally reveal their lanterns’much awaited “secrets” in three rounds of lights, colors and music display before an expected crowd of 30,000 to 40,000.

OF SAN FERNANDO---The Local Government of San Fernando, through its City Health Office, announced on Thursday the healthy places in the city for the year 2016.

The awarding was divided into seven categories namely healthy hotel, healthy hospital, healthy barangay, healthy school, healthy workplace, healthy eating places and healthy resort.

Mayor Edwin “Edsa” Santiago said the recognitio­n was originally initiated by the Department of Health and was adopted by the city to promote health and safety awareness.

“We have been doing this for five years now to give credit to different places and establishm­ents that offer quality services to our beloved Fernandino­s,”Santiago added.

This year’s healthy hotels are Pampanga Greenbuck Corporatio­n for SFP Bliss Hotel (grand winner), Hotel Victoria De San Fernando (first place), and Otel Wall Street Corporatio­n for Pampanga (second place).

For healthy hospital, the winners are Mother Teresa of Calcutta (grand winner) followed by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Medical Center (first place).

Water Splash Resort was awarded as healthy resort for this year.

Meanwhile, winners for the healthy school, barangay, workplace and

eating places were divided into small, medium and large subcategor­ies that depend on the size or number of population.

With a total of 7,259 enrolled students, San Fernando Elementary School was named as 2016’s most healthy school (large category) while Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Integrated School and Lara Integrated School were awarded as winners for medium and small category, respective­ly.

Healthy barangays are Barangay San Nicolas (large category), Barangay Baliti (medium category) and Barangay Juliana (small category).

The awardees for healthy workplace are PEPSICOLA Products Philippine­s Incorporat­ed (large category), Deliscents Incorporat­ed for Mister Donut (medium category) and RPO Fine Foods Corporatio­n for Wow Mani (small category).

Healthy eating places are The Red Rickshaw (large category), Maygreen Restaurant Incorporat­ed for Cookbook Kitchen (medium category) and Susie’s Cuisine MAH Dolores Branch (small category).---
