Tarlac City breaks ground on septage treatment plant

-

TARLAC CITY – Tarlac City will be the first to construct a septage treatment plant in the entire Tarlac province. The Tarlac City Septage Treatment Plant Project broke ground on December 8, 2016 at Barangay Sapang Maragul, with Mayor Cristy Angeles and officials of the Tarlac City Water District (TCWD) and PrimeWater Infrastructure Corporation.

Tarlac City will benefit from the project, which will be undertaken through a Joint Venture Agreement between the TCWD and PrimeWater. The plant will allow the regular emptying of septic tanks in the City and the treatment of the collected septage. Treated water from the septage plant will comply with DENR effluent standards and will be safe for discharge to water bodies, and even for reuse. With the new project, Tarlac City will comply with the Clean water Act which mandates all LGUs to have septage management systems by year 2020.

“Aside from the garbage and traffic problems in the City that my team is currently addressing for the City, this septage treatment plant will provide a safer and cleaner environment for all thepeopleof TarlacCity,”Mayor Cristy Angeles said.

The treatment plant will allow the processing of up to 60 cubic meters per day of septage using a fully-mechanized system. With the procurement of vacuum desludging trucks, the TCWD-Primewater Joint Venture will be able to efficiently serve the City throughout the 25year concession.

“The cost of the desludging service will be bundled with the water bill and will be made affordable to the public,”

TCWD General Manager Ester Vengco asserted.

Primewater President Fe Rebancos sees a more secure future for Tarlac City.

“With the dedication of our company to serve Filipino families across the country, this septage treatment plant for Tarlac City sets the stage for addressing the water and wastewater requirements of all current and future residents and businesses in the City”, she said.

The Tarlac City Septage Treatment Plant will be operational in the third quarter of 2017. (Press Release)
