Bizman happy with Duterte’s attention for the regions
Ian Ocampo Flora CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PamCham) Vice-Chairman Rene Romero said that he is happy with the current administrations attention for the regions especially the planned infrastructure and development projects for the regions.
Romero, a long time private sector participant in the regional development councils, said that this is the first time in so many administrations that there are clear-cut programs for the regions.
“I would love to believe that these plans and programs will push through,” Romero said stressing that such developments would complement the on going private sector-led developments in the region. Pampanga, for one, he said has seen so many developments in the past five years, adding that investment would continue to come in not just from home-grown investment but specially from big investors in the national level.
“This is a very exciting time for investment in Pampanga but also worrisome as government in the regions would need to prepare,”
Romero said stressing that development brings with it the usual problems like traffic due to the influx of economic activities.
Romero said that local government units should get ready and place necessary infrastructure in place so as not to end up like Metro Manila. He said that the region’s infrastructure, transportation and management systems should complement the needs of times.
“Let us act now and not wait for the time and wake up to a scenario that we are like Metro Manila,” Romero said that government in the regions should not be left two steps behind specially with the developments being stirred by the private sector and the national government under the Duterte administration.
