APALIT - Some 33 vendors from this municipality recently received livelihood assistance from the local government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Mayor Peter Nucom, who led the distribution, said that the local government has allocated some P495,000 from the bottoms-up budgeting of the national government to fund the Negosyo sa Kariton project.

Under the program, the vendors received P12,500 worth of NegoKarts and P2,500worth of goods which they would use to boost their livelihood.

Nucom said that recipients are currently selling food and the assistance only aims to increase their capital as well as improve their m at er i al s.

Among the 33 beneficiaries, Nucom disclosed that three of them are identified as persons with disabilities but are still willing to work to provide for their families.

The local chief executive expressed his hopes that the aid given by the government will help expand the business of the vendors and uplift the lives of their families.

DOLE Pampanga Director Arlyn Cortez, for her part, reminded recipients that they will be monitored by the Public Employment Office of their municipality to ensure that they are utilizing the assistance awarded to them.

She noted that the government has the capacity to withdraw the NegoKart to them if proven that they are not putting it in good use.
