LIFE MUST GO ON

-

VIENNA T. MACASPAC

Whenever we experience sadness and unpleasant events in our lives, we always hear our friends telling us “Life must go on.” This statement only reminds us that every dark cloud has silver lining, meaning, there is hope behind unfavourable situations that we sometimes face. As I reflect, I have realized that this has been true in my chosen profession, as a teacher.

Today, challenges become persistent as these keep on crossing the path of a teacher. Aside from the challenge of how a teacher communicates the key concepts and ideas to students for the latter to transform these into meaningful learning that could be helpful in the real battle in life, let us add the challenge of how a teacher implements disciplinary measures to students in order for them to realize how important discipline is in accomplishing tasks and in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the classroom. Other than making transfer of learning possible, let us add to the challenges of a teacher, the adjustments he or she makes as he or she works with her boss and colleagues which include the many paper works he or she needs to finish and the mentoring sessions he or she needs to attend promoting collaboration and communication. In addition, a teacher’s difficulty in dividing his or her time for his or her family and school is another story to be told about the life of a teacher.

With the bulk of trials and encounters a teacher faces, he or she is always reminded by the statement “Life must go on.” This only brings hope to every teacher that in each unfavourable situation he or she is into, he or she can still find for a solution. This only conveys happiness or joy to every educator despite the many trials he or she experiences. More importantly, this only invites positive atmosphere in the mind of every teacher that whatever problems he or she may face in the future, definitely will be solved.

As teachers, let us altogether enjoy our chosen profession by performing well our duties and responsibilities with eagerness and positivity. This is because we affect many lives especially the lives of our students. So even though we almost lose our energy in carrying out our tasks, let us remember the saying “Life must go on.” In this way, we become successful in fulfilling our mission as mentors. — oOo— The author is Teacher II at Northville High School
