WHAT MAKES A GOOD TEACHER ?

Teachers have been tested, time and again. But what makes a teacher stand out is having the heart for the job which is really matters.

Teachers must have the passion to teach, the desire to impart knowledge and the drive to succeed in their endeavour to educate.

When I was a child, all I wanted to do was to teach… . But of course, I did not have any idea then what makes a teacher click.

I didn’t know that a teacher must have the heart for the profession, as much as having the heart for his or her students.

But as the years went on, it dawned on me that being a teacher is no easy task. It is very difficult to establish rapport with the students, who come from different backgrounds.

And this is where the challenge lies – a challenge which must be conquered for us to be successful mentors to children who are thirsty for knowledge.

I thought I was not up to the challenge, but somehow, I conquered obstacles which at first glance would seem unperturbed. Low salary, extended work hours… . Those are just some of the difficulties we have to face.

But everything is worth it once you see your students striving to excel in academics, even extra-curricular activities. The fact that they are trying is enough.

Be glad to know that because of teachers like us, students become achievers in their chosen field, and successful in their own rights.
