CI TY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Provincial Government of Pampanga recognized a Kapampangan topnotcher from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Salaknib (Sangalang ay Lakas at Buhay Para sa Kalayaan ng Inang Bayan) Class of 2017.

2LT Carlo Emmanuel Manalansan Canlas, who landed in the top five spot, received the recognition during the Women’s Month Celebration and flag raising ceremony held at the Capitol grounds, Monday.

Board Member Ananias Canlas, Jr. along with Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda and board members Cherry Manalo, Salvador Dimson, Jr, Benny Jocson and Pol Balingit presented the recognition to Canlas.

Resolution 4577 stipulates that graduating from the PMA is by itself an achievement and being one who made to the top 10 graduating class is a rare distinc- tion that brings honor and worthy of commendat i on.

The Provincial Board resolved that Canlas exemplifies the story of a Kapampangan PMA cadet who passed the rigid screening and has undergone the most difficult military trainings and academic tests who eventually ranked No. 5 of the graduates of PMA ‘SALAKNIB’ Class of 2017.

The resolution also states that Canlas “will serve as a role model to encourage younger Kapampangan generations to enter the PMA and become successful in the field of military or police service”.

Aside from ranking fifth, Canlas also received the Philippine Air Force saber.

Canlas, who hails from barangay Sto. Niño in Lubao town never expected the recognition from the provincial government.

“I never expected na makakatanggap ako. I’m very glad because it’s like an incentive and I think it will inspire youth na mag-achieve even though na wala sila sa military institution but even in schools pwede silang mag-aim for excellence,” he sai d.

Canlas is one of five Kapampangans who graduated from the PMA this March.

The Provincial Board is set to create a resolution to recognize other Kapampangans who graduated from the premiere military institution in the country.— Liezel Cayanan/ Pampanga PIO
