BECOMING REAL

-

Change is the only permanent thing in the world as they say. It is something constant that neither us can control it. There is nothing wrong with it as long as it is for the better. But how about those who will be affected while doing this thing?

Last 2013, a new curriculum was implemented in the country. There are many factors that were studied first before the implementation. First question that bothers the Filipino citizens is that how ready are they in doing such an action?

The new curriculum is now on its 5th year. And we can all see that the Philippine Government is trying its best to make the curriculum a successful one. There are still things that are not that polished in line with the implementation. One of these is the lack of classrooms. There are still schools that are still having their classes in a shifting mode. They are maximizing each grade levels time to teach all the subjects they need to learn. But every problem has its solution and they are trying to solve them one by one.

Another thing that is not yet well is the number of books. The ratio of books must be 1:1 so that learning can be more effective. But inspite of having this trouble, as teachers, we need to have remedies. Students are also sharing books with each other if really needed.

Having these type of problems with the implemented curriculum is such a question to every Filipino if the said curriculum is really effective. It is implemented right ahead without any preparation that is why we cannot prevent them from thinking this things. What may be the possible reason on why it is implemented?

The additional two years for the secondary school can be a big help to the students who are studying under the K – 12 curriculum because it can guide them more on what course they really want to take in college. There are also more subjects that can be taught on their chosen area of specialization. By doing that, we can say that, our future generations can be more globally competitive.

The K – 12 curriculum may be a life changer for those who take it but if we will not be open to changes, we won’t know our capabilities. We won’t be able to show our growth. Not all changes are not good. There are still those who can make your life a much better one. There are still those who can make you realize your limits. You don’t just need to be stuck in that old ways you are used to. We also need to go out of the box. We are Filipinos. There are no challenges we weren’t able to face and surpass. We are Filipinos who can do also the things they can. — oOo— The author is Master Teacher II at San Pablo 2nd National High School
