334 Lubao residents in cash-for-work program
LUBAO— Some 334 residents of this town, mostly former drug-dependents, are now part of the local government’s cash-for-work program.
The beneficiaries, which came from the 21 barangays of the town, have been given their protective equipment to be used for their employment under the “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage Workers Program” (Tupad).
Some P1.4 million was appropriated for the salaries and other benefits of the Tupad workers. The allocation was facilitated by Butil Partylist Representative Cecilia Chavez and the Department of Labor and Employment. This is the second batch of Tupad beneficiaries for the town this year.
Earlier, 356 were awarded their equipment through the help of Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Tupad is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and unemployed indigents.
It is a component of the Dole Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program. Under the program, each beneficiary is hired to work for a minimum of 10 days with a daily pay of P3,570.
Meanwhile, DA-Gender and Development (GAD) Program with the help of the Philippine Commission on Women led the distribution of IEC materials to each member of the agency that contains information about the Magna Carta of Women on the beginning of the celebration of Women’s Month last February 27.
The month of March is an opportunity for women to get the community to know them and let the women know their roles in society, and reflect the rights of women guaranteed under the Law of Magna Carta.
Some of these were protection from violence; participation and representation of equality before the law; equal access and elimination of discrimination in education; and equal rights for all matters regarding marriage and family relationships.
