PLP president to prosecutors, ‘Be dedicated public servants’
CLARK FREEPORT — Prosecutors League of the Philippines (PLP) President Danilo Yang urged his fellow prosecutors to be dedicated public servants.
“As President of the PLP, I have been encouraging prosecutors to be fair, to be honest… as we should be the exemplar of good governance,”he said during the 29th Annual National Convention of PLP which was graced by President Rodrigo Duterte.
It carried the theme “Taga-usig, Kabalikat ng Pangulo Laban sa Droga at Katiwalian”in a bid to comply with the aim of the President to eliminate both drugs and corruption in the country.
“We, as prosecutors, can help a lot in our President’s goal for the country. We are the main group that really looks after the filing of cases in criminal cases. We are the ones who prosecute up to the end of the resolution, which makes our role very important in the prosecution, as well as in the filing of cases for drug cases,” Yang explained.
On another note, he pointed out that as the leader of the PLP, he sees to it that all prosecutors are doing their job in accordance to their assigned and sworn duties.
The National Convention of PLP seeks to approve all resolutions and to address all concerns of the prosecutors.
Among the concerns aired was the challenge of coping with the volume of cases being filed with the minimal number of prosecutors all over the country.
“There are many prosecution offices, but most of these offices are in need of more prosecutors. Many [prosecutors] are appointed as judges, which explains our problem in terms of numbers,” Yang admitted.
Moreover, he disclosed that they are also appealing to the President to issue an Executive Order permitting all prosecutors to have the right to carry fire arms.
“We, as prosecutors, have our lives at stake, considering the service we are rendering. This is whyweareasking[the President] if he could grant an Executive Order to all Regional Directors [of the Department of Justice] permitting us to carry fire arms for our safety and security,” Yang said.
