Pampanga’s first ‘green hotel’ opens in City of San Fernando

-

A new property is set to change the landscape of the the City of San Fernando, as Best Western Bendix Hotel, Pampanga’s first “green hotel” finally opened on Friday.

Situated at the heart of the city’s business district, the hotel is the first accommodation in the province to use environment-friendly systems and practices. It is also the first and only hotel to receive an investment incentive from the city government.

According to Rion Patawaran, chief executive officer of Hilcres Consolidated Corporation, the development of a green hotel is a conscious choice because of the challenges brought about by climate change.

“Here in Best Western Bendix Hotel, we observe sustainable and green building practices and technologies in concordance with the environmental advocacies of the City of San Fernando,” he said.

“I think it’s about time we step up and do something about our environment. Also, I believe it’s long over due and nd the time has come for our city to have a decent and world-class lodging facility that we can all take pride of,” he added.

Moreover, beyond promoting an eco-friendly advocacy, Patawaran revealed that Best Western Bendix Hotel stands as a legacy to his late father who passed away in November 2012.

“This hotel is our tribute not only to our loving mother, Dita, but also to our visionary father, Ruben. With the construction of the hotel, his spirit lives in all of us, his children. This is for him, as a way of gratitude for all his hardwork and perseverance to give our family a life that is comfortable and fulfilling,” he noted.

For his part, Mayor Edwin Santiago lauded the Patawarans’ initiative to pave way for more conscious and innovative standards and practices that are aligned with the city’s ‘New San Fernando’ concept.

“The city has started a journey of building a green, smart, sustainable, and livable city for the Fernandinos. Being the first green building in this city, we are grateful for your commitment in utilizing eco-friendly practices and technologies and for joining us in our mission to build the New San Fernando,” he said.

“Our advocacy for the environment is our share in being part of the solution to combat climate change. These initiatives are not only for mere recognitions, but rather our wage of dedication and commitment for the future generations. These are for the young Fernandinos who will reap eventually what we are starting to sow,” he added.
