SAN SIMON — A public high school from this fourth district town on Monday benefitted from three projects rolled into one by the local government unit here.

Mayor Leonora S. Wong, accompanied by former mayor Rodrigo “Digos” Canlas, turnedover the newly-improved covered court of Sta. Monica High School (SMHS) worth P300,000.

Wong said that she allocated funds for the improvement of the former non-concrete and roofless court where school gatherings are supposed to be held.

“Dito dapat lahat gagawin ang mga school gatherings, kaya lang kapag tag-ulan hindi na daw nila magamit kasi maputik daw,” she said.

Upon hearing the situation, Wong said she immediately sourced for funding for the concreting of the facility which can also serve as evacuation center during times of calamities.

Aside from the school’s newest facility, students of SMHS also received their scholarship grants from the local government.

Wong said that the more than 300 high school students enjoy free education as their miscellaneous fees and other school expenses are covered by the scholarship grant.

She added that the students are regular beneficiaries of the local government’s educational assistance for the indigent but deserving Simonian youth.

Wong, meanwhile, also facilitated the induction of Parent-Teachers Association and Supreme Student Government officers.

Wong said that the projects awarded to the SMHS are part of the local government program to develop the education sector of this town.

“Isa sa mga priority natin parati ay ang pag-aaral ng mga bata. Gusto ko lahat ng kabataan ay makapagtapos ng pag-aaral dahil nakikita natin ang importansya niyo sa pamilya at sa bayan,” he said.

Canlas, for his part, urged the high school students to strive harder for their education and dream higher, not only for themselves but for their families.

He stressed that hard work on studies is always a good investment as its fruits of progress will surely be reap. “Alam ko ang value ng pag-aaral dahil ako mismo ay minsan nakipaglaban para makamit ito. Kaya gusto namin para sa inyong mga kabataan, makatapos at makatulong sa inyo mga pamilya,” he said.

SMHS School Head Noel Manansala, meanwhile, extended the gratitude of the school community for the initiative and generosity of the local government headed by Wong.

He said that the programs and projects implemented by the local government will surely boost the morale of students and teachers of SMHS.
