CSF exec: GLF to bring barangays, people together
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— Vice-Mayor Jimmy Lazatin on Monday said that the Giant Lantern Festival (GLF) this year aims to bring together the city's villages in one friendly competition that will also surely bring people from all walks of life on December 16 for the grand competition at a local mall here.
Lazatin added that more than the competition, the event is now a reason for families and people to get
together. He added that the sheer number of people who visit each year is a clear indication of how popular the GLF competition has become.
Eleven barangays will compete for the GLF this year. The participating barangays are Calulut, Del Pilar, firsttimer Del Rosario, Pandaras, San Jose, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sindalan, Sta. Lucia, Sto. Nino and Telabastagan.
The vice-mayor added that the spirit of getting together and celebrating the Yuletide season is at the core of the giant lantern tradition. He added that looking through the history of the competition would reveal how the lantern tradition had brought people and villages together. The event is an opportunity for people to commit their time, resources and energy in keeping the celebration alive.
The GLF Foundation Incorporated had also awarded each barangay a subsidy of P190, 909.09. The executive committee reiterated that all giant lantern entries must measure 20 feet and shall not use more than 10,000 bulbs. More tourists are expected to flock this year considering the expanded lot venue which can accommodate additional 6,000 persons. Organizers and CLTV 36 also entered into an agreement to help in the promotion of the festival through the GLF caravan and tours in other malls and exclusive media coverage.
