CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 4 yesterday hosted the taxpayer segmentation program forum at the Kingsborough International Convention Centre attended by dozens of stakeholders and top tax payers of the region.

The program, adapted this year, subdivides the categories of taxpayers into small, medium, and large and designates specific offices that will oversee taxpayer compliance to further expand the tax base. The medium taxpayers will be designated to regional directors and small taxpayers will be assigned to the revenue district officers.

BIR regional director Jethro Sabariaga said that the segmentation program helps monitor the tax compliance of the taxpayers.

He added that a segmented taxpayer profile would facilitate a more focused tax campaign and collection effort.

According to the BIR, the large taxpayers are identified as multinational corporations, with authorized capitalization of at least P300 million registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, multinational enterprises with authorized capitalization or assigned capital of at least P300 million, publicly listed corporations, universal, commercial and foreign banks, taxpayers with an authorized capitalization of at least P100 million belonging to the banking, insurance, petroleum, telecommunications, utilities, alcohol and tobacco industries, and corporate taxpayers engaged in production of metallic minerals.

Meanwhile, the event also honored the top 500 taxpayers of the region. The forum was also attended by BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay. There was also a discussion on the Tax Gap as well as the TP segmentation pr oj ect .
