For Greg Slaughter, Episode 6 still anybody's game

BEFORE

a huge record crowd in the mammoth Bocaue, Bulacan dome, Ginebra's big guy turned out the biggest difference-maker in the last game.

And he's expected to remain a focal point in Game Six of the PBA Governors Cup finale at the Philippine Arena.

For Greg Slaughter, it's still anybody's game and anybody's series.

"Whoever comes out hungrier Wednesday would get the game," said Slaughter ahead of the match where the Gin Kings take their first of two cracks at wrapping up the crown.

He was a key in their 85-74 win in Game Five as he responded well in coach Tim Cone's crucial adjustment on the sidelining of Sol Mercado on a sprained ankle.

Tapped to start for the first time in the series and playing extended minutes, Slaughter put in a huge double-double game with 17 points and 16 rebounds that went with six blocks.

But Slaughter played down his game, saying they pulled through on a solid team effort.

"We came out very aggressive and fortunately we're able to maintain it the whole game," he said.

Slaughter hopes they come out with the same effort in Game Six to have a good shot at closing out the series and accomplish Ginebra's mission of scoring a first title repeat.

The 7-foot-1 slotman is determined to put in his share in chase of a first crown. He was confined on the bench due to an injury in their previous Governors Cup title run.

But Slaughter could well face a bigger battle.

Meralco coach Norman Black acknowledged the difference made by Slaughter in Game Five. And the Bolts could be ready for the Ginebra behemoth Wednesday. -
