HAU JHRMA reaches out to public school children
Over a fifty children, together with their parents, from Maliwalu Elementary School were invited by the Junior Hotel and Restaurant Managers’Association (JHRMA) in a gift-giving program held at the University’s Student Center recently.
The children enjoyed the fun games and exciting prizes in a simple program prepared by the members of the organization. School supplies, bags, and umbrellas were also distributed among the students while grocery items were given to their parents. A special lunch prepared by the HRM and Culinary students themselves was also served to delight the invited children and their parents.
In an interview with the President of JHRMA, John Marvin Santiago mentioned that to be able to use their learned skills as SHTM students to reach out and help the community was an inspiring experience for all of them. He added that the outreach program allowed them to appreciate the value of compassion. Maliwalu Elementary School is one of the adopted schools of SHTM which was also the beneficiary of previous outreach programs held by the school. (HAU)
