More than 4,000 Fernandinos employed in 2017 through PESO
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the City Government of San Fernando reported that a total of 4,524 jobless Fernandinos were employed last year through the conduct of various job fairs and referral progr ams.
PESO Manager Donny Sayre said their office has even exceeded the target number of persons to be employed for the year 2017 making them yield a 113.10 percent job placement rate.
“We are very delighted with the surpassing output because our main goal for the previous year was to help at least 4,000 job seekers get hired. Last year, we have also solicited 22, 549 local and overseas job vacancies with the help of our active partners,” he added.
Sayre also shared other notable accomplishments of the PESO such as the provision of job to 479 youth under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) and administration of career advocacies to majority of schools in the city.
PESO also facilitated the deployment of 1,142 beneficiaries of the Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Displaced at Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD), a community based program that provides short term employment to unemployed or underemployed poor.
All these initiatives were recognized as the PESO was recently hailed as the Civil Service Commission’s Regional PAGASA Awardee for the team category, adding to its feat of being a threetime National Best PESO Awardee and Hall of Famer.
For his part, Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago lauded the entire PESO workforce composed of the Labor Market Section, Placement and Referral Section, Youth Development Section, and Livelihood and Skills Training Section for their continuous efforts in promoting employment opportunities and sustainable livelihood for the Fernandinos.
“The awards given to the PESO are testimonies of the hardwork of the staff and the efficiency of their services. The city government will continue to support and innovate essential programs to contribute further to the job growth of the society,” Santiago added.
