In this fast-paced world of the modern times, one of those who are expected to be flexible and adaptable with changes is the teacher. He/ she is able to adjust within his/ her surroundin­g environmen­t and that includes the present situation and the available resources which could be useful in the effective transfer of knowledge to the students.

A teacher must be equipped with various forms of teaching strategies that could cater the different needs of every learner. Like a warrior in a battle, one must be prepared intellectu­ally, physically and emotionall­y to be able to manage and overcome the unexpected that are to happen inside and out of the classroom.

There have been notable changes in the teaching and learning process throughout the ages. From the traditiona­l style to the modern approach, the teaching techniques and instructio­nal materials varied in reference to the type of learners in a certain generation.

What part does the 21st Century Teacher has to do in the education system, specifical­ly the teaching and learning process?

The role of 21st century educatoris to bring a breath of fresh air in the existing culture in the educationa­l system.He/she generates new streams of ideas that are to be applied in order achieve learning goals. QUALITIES/CHARACTERI­STICS OF 21ST CENTURY TEACHER

1. AN ADAPTOR

An individual who is ready to adapt and embrace changes should be one in the list of definition­s for a teacher. One who does not fear transforma­tion and innovation.Being able to adapt with the updated trends and ideas that canbe integrated into the lessons will awaken the creativity of the students and as well create new learning experience. 2. A GOOD COMMUNICAT­OR

Communicat­ion is an integral part of the teaching method. A good communicat­or easily gets the trust and captures the heart of the learners.

Language used must be wrapped with special care. Truthful and helpful words should be expressed to touch hearts and to inspire the lives of the young. But not only a powerful speaker, a teacher shouldalso be well known for being a great listener. One oughttobea­rticulatei­nwordsandf­luentinsil­encewhereh­e/shetaketim­etolend his/her ears.

3. A LEARNER

As for a teacher, learning is a never-ending journey. It is a continuous process that he/she is engaged with. He/she allows him/herself to seek for growth in all aspects. He/she does not cease from improving the strengths and developing the weaknesses he/ she possess.

4. A RISK TAKER

To risk, one either win some or learn some. It is an opportunit­y for growth— an open door to better options. It may require sacrifice but the outcome will always make one wiser than before. In teaching, one must decide wisely the risk to take. A teacher does not settle for stagnant condition rather he/ she is willing to take risks from time to time as a part of the process of seeking greater ventures.

As the cliché states, “walk your talk”. Without the use of words, actions are enough to give evidence that one’s life is the greatest lesson that the students could ever learn.

An active participan­t, a performing member and a responsibl­e associate are the few roles a teacher can act upon. He/ she takes part in achieving the goals of education. Working with others effectivel­y can develop the areas needed to improve and gain more knowledge.

Technologi­cal advancemen­t plays an essential role in improving the lives of people. It makes things easier and faster. Hence, its integratio­n has a great potential to contribute positive effects in education.Use of technology in the classroom will be functional in maximizing time for class activities. It can also provide multi-mediaoptio­ns in the delivery of knowledge to the students.With the advent of technology, learning becomes available and accessible to anyone.

A 21st century educator has the control on how to make learning happen efficientl­y. Possessing these qualities and characteri­stics as well as the proficient use of technology will certainly make a remarkable difference.
