2,830 polling precincts being set for barangay, SK polls

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Commission on Elections Region III (Comelec-3) is now prepararin­g for the upcoming barangay and Sanggunian­g Kabataan (SK) polls set May this year.

This was learned from Comelec-3 Assistant Regional Director Elmo Duque who disclosed that local election officers in the region are already implementi­ng rigorous measures to ensure the safety and orderlines­s of village polls.

He bared that the Comelec continues to monitor the situation of the 2,830 polling precincts, including the lighting, cleanlines­s and functional­ity of comfort rooms and its readiness to accommodat­e persons-with-disability voters.

“Since the barangay and SK elections will push through, we are, together with our election officers and board of canvassers, busy preparing for the polls to ensure that it is orderly,” he said.

Duque added that the Comelec also focuses on monitoring the delivery of ballot boxes to every precinct to ensure that there will be no shortages or worse, anomalies come election day.

“One of the things we are focusing on is the eliver of ballot boxes. There are reports of shortages so as early as now we are transferri­ng from precincts which have extra ballot boxes,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Duque disclosed that the Comelec also implements measures to prep up and educate voters on the their rights to choose the candidate they think is deserving through the barangay forum activities.

He added that all local Comelec offices have also posted the list of qualified voters this coming barangay and SK elections for the proper guidance of the public.

“After two postponeme­nts of the barangay elections, we want to make sure that all goes well and without anomalies for the sake of our voters,” he said.
