14 LUCs in CL now eligible for free higher education

Thas he Commission on Higher Education (CHED) approved the inclusion of a total of 14 Local Universiti­es and Colleges (LUCs) in Central Luzon that are eligible to accept students who will avail of free tuition and other school fees under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017 or RA 10931 starting SY 2018-2019.

Local Universiti­es and Colleges (LUCs) are educationa­l institutio­ns establishe­d by local government units through an ordinance and other enabling acts.

The 14 LUCs have undergone institutio­nal and program evaluation by CHED since 2017. The LUCs are given two years to comply with all other institutio­nal and program requiremen­ts in order to be part of RA 10931. Failure to do so will result in their exclusion from the list of LUCs under RA 10931.

Included in the list are: Mabalacat College, Baliuag Polytechni­c College, Bulacan Polytechni­c College, City College of Angeles, City College of San Fernando, Pampanga, Eduardo L. Joson Memorial College, Guagua Community College, Kolehiyo ng Guiguinto, Kolehiyo ng Subic, Limay Polytechni­c College, Norzagaray College, Pambayang Dalubhasaa­n ng Marilao, Polytechni­c College of Botolan, Polytechni­c College of the City of Meycauayan.

CHED will continue to monitor and evaluate the program offering of the LUCs and assist them as needed to ensure that they will provide quality education to students.

The Commission will issue the next batch of qualified LUCs in time for the opening of classes in 2019 to 2020.
