There are more than 75,000 new teaching positions for the upcoming school year, after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has green-lighted the creation of the said positions.

According to the Department of Education, the DBM has approved the creation of 75,252 teaching positions for kindergarten/elementary, junior high school, and senior high school for school year 2018-2019.

The creation of new teaching positions, the DBM said, is in line with the request made by the Department of Education (DepEd) to address the inadequate number of teaching personnel in public schools across the country.

The salaries and other forms of compensation for the new positions will be charged against the appropriations for the DepEd.

To recall, the DepEd has been allocated a budget of P553.31 billion this year, as against the P543.186-billion fund last year.

The DBM will release the budget once the new teaching positions have been filled.

Of the 75,242 new teachers, 40,642 teaching personnel are to be hired for kindergarten and elementary, while around 34,244 new teachers are needed for junior high schools and 356 for senior high schools.

The Regional Offices of the DBM and the DBM Organization, Position Classification, and Compensation Bureau will issue the corresponding notices of organization, staffing; and compensation action director to the DepEd-Division Offices for kinder, elementary, and senior high school and to the DepEd-Implementing Units for Junior High School positions based on the deployment records submitted by the Education department.
