WHO IS A TEACHER?

- RHEA E. QUIAMBAO

Many people say that teachers are heroes, saving innocent and ignorant minds to an enlightening colorful, imaginative, creative individuals; building the pupils to lead the righteous and meaningful path to success and developing their manners in all aspects: social, mental, physical and religious; for them not to be doomed to remain as naïve, innocent people.

More so, these are not the only teachers’ advocacy, for a teacher endures a lot of sacrifices and sufferings. Though he is obliged with unlimited responsibilities to the pupils, he is very limited in giving sanctions to discipline them. If a student fails academically, then, it’s a teacher factor, if a student dropped out, still, a teacher factor…it’s always the teacher to be blamed. He acts as an absorber.

Seeing pupils with empty stomach, the teacher is the one to fill; a student without a paper, notebook or pencil, still it’s the teacher to act as a provider. If a student pees inside the classroom, the teacher will clean the dirt. And if the student is sick, he is to give the first aid. He acts as a janitor and a nanny. A student suffering from depression, family problem, relationship problem, a teacher will act as a guidance counselor. He gives love and caress for the pupils who are longing for affection because their own family can’t even extend it to their own child.

Despite of all these duties, obligations and agonies, a teacher remains to be calm, joyous, innovative, flexible, open minded and strong. And this is not for himself, rather, all for the benefit of the pupils, the ones that they consider their very own.

Apparently, we can say that teachers are worth emulating, worth loving and they ought to be respected dearly, for without them, there’ll be no good professionals. Isn’t it proper to give them the maximum benefit this world or country could offer? Let’s help the people who helped us build us as we are now. Kudos to all teachers!
