ALL FOR THE LOVE OF THE LEARNER
RUSSELL T. MAO
“How do I love thee? Let me Count the ways”.
As teachers, we should do everything to let our students learn and to effectively do this, we must utilize every available sources and resources. We should never stop to explore newer methods, just to convey our ideas to them. There are indeed countless way to do this. There are strategies, techniques or methods that oftentimes are ‘fits all’to any subject area.
Social Studies or in more layman’s term: Araling Panlipunan subject can exploit not only Graphs and charts in teaching demography of a certain region in the world. There are time tested methods like cooperative learning, writing and presenting information and oral and visual activities as well.
Graphic organizers will help students to organize and display information and their finding through charts maps, diagrams, templates, webs, grids and wheels.
Group activities are better taught using cooperative learning whereas they will have the opportunity to work together to achieve shared learning goals.
Writing as well as presentation of information are both an effective method to gauge students’understanding about the topic. Writing essays, paragraphs, questionnaires, surveys belong to this method.
And finally to complete the line-up, the luxuriate of the old schools’oral and visual activities that includes the use of pictures, photos, drawings, audio conferences, biographies and interview. Who says teaching ‘A Pan’is limited only to graphs and maps.
