You shall love your neighbor as yourself

-

THE characteristic of being selfless is one of the most vital traits a person can have. It was also included on the Ten Commandments of God that says: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” and this is one of the most imperative command.

Selflessness runs counter to human nature, which is why being selfless is so much more demanding than being selfish. Its natural think or care first about ourselves, and we are encouraged to think selfishly from all sides. Being selfless is a mind-set.

For easier understanding, it is about putting someone else before you.

It’s about doing somebody a favor or something with no restraints. It’s about realizing that life isn’t just about your own needs and predilections but rather looking out for another’s as well.

Selflessness is an important ingredient on aspects such marriage, friendship, and relationship and an essential key to fulfillment, happiness and harmony. But unfortunately, often disregarded.

Selflessness is often disregarded as a key to happiness because on the surface, it seems to run divergent to the very notion. But it should not be.

We have given a life and it has several possible purposes.

They can be used to advance personal kingdom for selfishly owned reasons (money, fame, possessions, reputation, and prestige). But our lives can also be lived in justice, happiness, or growth and development of our nation. We can live to unravel problems we encounter in this world in line with the top illnesses of our nation, the Philippines. We can dedicate ourselves to advancing certain exempl ar s.

But only when we embrace right service and selflessness will we find lasting significance in our nation.

People try to delineate success through winning over others, having more power over others, thousands of likes on Facebook, gaining popularity, or the ability to dominate others.

The lust of power is common and prevalent in human ñ the power to demand others around, the power to make decisions that will influence other for what is beneficial to them, the power to own when others cannot, and taking advantage on others weaknesses. This form of happiness and influence is ephemeral.

Nobody in this world is closely drawn to selfishness. Nobody seeks the astute counsel of a selfish person. Nobody is eager to give up their built kingdom for others. However, we are distinctively lead to those selflessly give themselves.

Those who love and give bigheartedly catch nature of fulfillment that extends beyond position, title, or structure. They find the authority that reaches into our heart and soul. Their example are studied, counsel is sought, their stories are retold in an optimistic means and their happiness is truly lasting.

May we rubbish to overlook the importance of selflessness? Instead, may we choose to pursue selflessness as the precise means to achieve happiness not just for our own sake, but for the sake of those we choose to love ñ our family, our work, our nation and love for our country.
