RCMabalacat City member receives Rotary International’shighest award
Gloria Nethercutt, a member of the Rotary Club of Mabalacat, was awarded the Service Above Self Award recently in Subic at a recent Rotary District Confer ence.
To be considered for the prestigious honor, the 1.2 million member organization states that a Rotarian must have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service with emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others through Rotary.
Although Rotary International has over one million members in the world, only one hundred and fifty individuals are chosen by the Rotary Board of Directors in Chicago each year to be given this honor.
Nethercutt is only the seventh Rotarian to receive the Service Above Self Award in this Rotary District which includes ten northern Luzon provi nces.
She was presented the award by Mervyn Ericson, the Representative for the Rotary International President, and District Governor, Boboy Val l es.
Nethercutt’s nomination stated The life of Gloria Nethercutt is truly one of Service Above Self. She has constantly made herself available to assist Rotarians at all levels, from club members, to International Zone Directors.
Gloria has freely provided her experience and ability for many years. Her home is always open to Rotarians from her club, area clubs, the district’s ten provinces, and even others
for the Philippines and other countries. She is in constant coordination with many Rotary Governors for her expertise in grant writing and pract i ces.
Her qualifications include:
10 years as The Rotary Foundation
District Grants Sub-Chair
2 years at Rotary Foundation Cadre for 10 provinces
Writing Rotary Grants for almost two million USD Conducted Grant Workshops for the 10 provinces in district
2016 Awardee at Asian WASH
(Water & Sanitation) Conference
Outstanding Representative Award by Philippine Rotary Magazine
Bio-Sand Filter Grant
(constructed and distributed 500 filters)
Toilet Block Grant
(constructed 52 toilet stations in 10 provinces) Developed three Training Centers (Sewing, Cooking, Welding, and other livelihood courses)

Gloria is a retired Civil and Chemical Engineer with 13 years as a private building contractor specializing in housing and land development.
Nethercutt said she is happy to be recognized by Rotary International as one of the 150 recipients in the world to be honored to receive the Service Above Self Award.
