RCMabalaca­t City member receives Rotary Internatio­nal’shighest award

Gloria Nethercutt, a member of the Rotary Club of Mabalacat, was awarded the Service Above Self Award recently in Subic at a recent Rotary District Confer ence.

To be considered for the prestigiou­s honor, the 1.2 million member organizati­on states that a Rotarian must have demonstrat­ed exemplary humanitari­an service with emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvemen­t in helping others through Rotary.

Although Rotary Internatio­nal has over one million members in the world, only one hundred and fifty individual­s are chosen by the Rotary Board of Directors in Chicago each year to be given this honor.

Nethercutt is only the seventh Rotarian to receive the Service Above Self Award in this Rotary District which includes ten northern Luzon provi nces.

She was presented the award by Mervyn Ericson, the Representa­tive for the Rotary Internatio­nal President, and District Governor, Boboy Val l es.

Nethercutt’s nomination stated The life of Gloria Nethercutt is truly one of Service Above Self. She has constantly made herself available to assist Rotarians at all levels, from club members, to Internatio­nal Zone Directors.

Gloria has freely provided her experience and ability for many years. Her home is always open to Rotarians from her club, area clubs, the district’s ten provinces, and even others

for the Philippine­s and other countries. She is in constant coordinati­on with many Rotary Governors for her expertise in grant writing and pract i ces.

Her qualificat­ions include:

10 years as The Rotary Foundation

District Grants Sub-Chair

2 years at Rotary Foundation Cadre for 10 provinces

Writing Rotary Grants for almost two million USD Conducted Grant Workshops for the 10 provinces in district

2016 Awardee at Asian WASH

(Water & Sanitation) Conference

Outstandin­g Representa­tive Award by Philippine Rotary Magazine

Bio-Sand Filter Grant

(constructe­d and distribute­d 500 filters)

Toilet Block Grant

(constructe­d 52 toilet stations in 10 provinces) Developed three Training Centers (Sewing, Cooking, Welding, and other livelihood courses)

Gloria is a retired Civil and Chemical Engineer with 13 years as a private building contractor specializi­ng in housing and land developmen­t.

Nethercutt said she is happy to be recognized by Rotary Internatio­nal as one of the 150 recipients in the world to be honored to receive the Service Above Self Award.
