HOW TO MAKE KIDS LOVE SCHOOL AGAIN?
ROSALIE P. OPPUS
After a long days of summer vacation, the opening of another school had finally come. Most of the kids are still this hang over their idle break. Here are some tips according to Dr. Thomas Gordon’s Parent Effectiveness Training.
1. Know your child’s strength and interest and build up on them. Boost his confidence by commending good performance in art or help him compensate for his weakness in Math.
2. Do teaching in a form of a storytelling. It is easier to sustain the attention of a child telling him how the Philippines had been discovered, rather than making him memorize all the dates and names straight from the book.
3. Encourage your child’s curiosity. Let him discover things in experimental approach. Hands-on learning is one of the best techniques in exploring things.
4. Let him learn how things work for himself by watching other people. Develop your child’s ability to observe. Then go through the process and procedure with your with your help.
Remember that building a close relationship between a parent and child may solve any dwindling enthusiasm for school. The love and affection of a parent to his child will boost his confidence on himself and encourage him to do best and perform well in school.
