Mabalacat to roll out free WiFi project
MABALACAT CITY — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), in cooperation with the city government and the Metro Clark Information and Communications Technology (MCICT), is set to implement its free WiFi project in the city.
The local government recently forged an agreement with DICT and MCICT in connection with the project which will provide free internet connections
in public places including the city hall, parks, barangay halls, public schools and others.
City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo led other city officials during the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DICT executives at the Mimosa Golf Course Hilltop Restaurant last Thursday.
Garbo said the project will complement their goals of transforming Mabalacat into a smart city.
The project dubbed “Pipol Konek,” initiated by the National Broadband Plan, is expected to enhance government service and improve the lifestyle of the people, according to Garbo.
The mayor also underscored the need to adapt to the changing needs of the people. “With better internet access, we see more opportunities for our p eop l e.”
Also present during the MOA signing were Cheryl Ortega, Cluster Director of DICT and Grace Fabros Tyler, president of the MCICT.
