Yeng undecided yet on running in 2019
CLARK FREEPORT - Former First District Congressman Joseller “Yeng” Guiao is not yet decided on getting back his former position in Congress next year.
Not that he is not int er est ed .
“I have yet to decide on it although I’m preparing for it,” Guiao said during a forum at Bale-Balita with members of the Capampangan in Media, inc. (CAMI) here last Friday.
Guiao lost in the 2016 congressional polls to the now incumbent Carmelo “Jon-Jon” Lazati n.
A multi-championship coach in the Philippine Basketball Association, Guiao cited two factors that will compel him to challenge the younger Lazatin in the next election.
“My decision will depend on the performance of the current congressman in the district, especially in pushing for my advocacy during my term, and whether the people of the district still want me to serve,” Guiao said.
The full development of the Clark International Airport was the centerpiece of Guiao’s legislative agenda and partnership effort with the business community in his three-year term as a neophyte lawmaker.
Guiao said he is already in the process of getting the pulse of the people in the first
district, which comprises the two cities of Angeles and Mabalacat and the fast-growing town of Magalang.
Guiao comes from Magalang, the smallest political unit in the district.
A three-cornered fight is seen in the congressional race in the district with Guiao, Lazatin and incumbent Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan expected to go for the post.
Guiao was not yet definitive on what party he would run. But earlier, PDP Laban Region III Chairman Tito Mendiola revealed that Guiao wiould be their bet in 2019 for the district’s congressional campaign.
Meanwhile, Guiao continues to be upbeat on the growth of Clark and Pampanga.
“We expect more to come our way in the coming years”, he said.
He said what the province enjoy now the result of the collective and cumulative effort of past and present national and local leadership.
“This development did not happen overnight but was the fruition of hardwork, vision and dedication of our leaders in government, business and civil society past and present,” Guiao said.— NCS
