Lazatin urges Fernandinos to help public schools
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— “Let us go out and help our schools this National Maintenance School Week or more known as Brigada Eskwela. Share your time, effort or resources for the furtherance of our school children.”
Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin noted that helping public schools also be done not just during the Brigada Eskwela campaign, but as long as public schools need help.
This was Lazatin’s call as various public schools in the city joined the nation-wide school preparation program for the opening of the School Year 20182019. Brigada Eskwela, launched in 2003 has generated support from the private and public sectors all over the country. While no cash donations are accepted, materials for cleaning, repair and beautification can be contributed.
In this capital city, Lazatin started mustering support for the program since 2004. Having held the helm of the education sector in the city council during
his time as councilor, Lazatin has never failed to call for support for the program even now as he is the city’vice mayor. But Lazatin stressed that helping public schools should not just be during the start of the school.
“Helping public schools should be a year round thing. This is were sectoral groups come in,” Lazatin said.
The theme of this year’s Brigada Eskwela is “Pagkakaisa Para sa Handa, Ligtas, at Matatag na Paaralan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan.”
The goal of the program is to engage the community in the one-week preparation for the opening of the school year.
In the Brigada Eskwela program, a school taps its faculty and staff, parents, neighboring barangays, government offices, private companies and individuals in cleaning and sprucing up classrooms several days before classes start.
Best practices under the program are recognized in the Brigada Eskwela Awards by DepEd.
