It is good to note that this year, we have the first batch Senior High School (SHS) or K-12 graduates and they are now rolled out to college. This batch has the options if they will pursue their college education or enter the workforce.

These K-12 graduates are now preparing for the next challenge, however, there are few Filipinos who are still wondering on the K to 12 programs in the Philippines.

To give clarity on the matters, let us look back to get updates on the K 12 curriculum in the country six years after its implementation.

The Department of Education under Secretary Leonor Briones claimed that for 2017-2018, the department created 40,104 teacher items for the K-12 program. But, Briones confesses that the DepEd still lack teachers and classrooms to fill in its demands.

The secretary noted that additional items will be created throughout the year, depending on the actual enrollment for SY 2017-2018.

The DepEd continues to arrange the hiring of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) faculty affected by the reform until SY 2021-2022.

Senior High School has used 55,680 K-12 classrooms, near completion of the 2014-2015 classroom backlogs, and registered 51.59% completion rate for the years 2014 through 2016.

If the incoming first year college chose path that falls under the TVL-ICT track, CIIT-Philippine is an SHS-ready college they can choose. Besides, it supports the K-12 curriculum in the Philippines. Further, it offers programs for both incoming and graduating SHS students.
