A LEADER’S BUILDING BLOCKS

-

MAGGIE S. TUBAON

Every time I come across the word “Leadership”, I can’t help but incorporate the words responsibility, passion, commitment and many more. But If I’m going to mention each of them until the last one that’s on the tip of my tongue, I may not finish at all. So here’s the catch. In order to define the word leadership, we are the course in need of others words that can qualify in giving the word a justice with respect to its definition. So does a leader in real life. There has to be subordinate substances in order to accomplish the main ingredient. I believe that, what were mentioned are those that can be the “building blocks” of a leader.

First is Responsibility. “A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of credit.” – Arnold H. Glasow.

What is leader without a sense of responsibility? Problems exist to be surmounted and there has to be someone to get the ball rolling. Someone with profound strength of personality that is unshakeable at most points. Someone who knows what the problem is all about, what, when, where should it be done and who would to it, not excluding himself. More importantly, someone who is honest with weaknesses and shortcomings of himself and his colleagues must also very humble and appreciative of the effort of other people at the sight of victory.

Second is Passion. Many people say that if you don’t pour your heart into what you do, then you can’t get others heart to love that certain things too. If you know your purpose by heart and put in deed then your directing skills can go far than what you can imagine, because if you yourself are familiar of one thing, no matter how people try to twist and turn it, you’ll surely get back to your grounds in no time.

Lastly, Commitment. I love the couple this word with integrity and courage. It is indeed a painstaking task to lead a group of people with different mindsets to function just like a machine programmed to produce a certain kind of outcome. But the power dwells on the commitment. If you can empower yourself with your positive outlook and sincere intentions and just with who you really are, then the kind of leader many are looking for might just be you.
