PORAC— The Municipal Government of Porac was formally awarded the P2.8 million of the third wave of cash-forwork program payments from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office III.

Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz said that the DSWD is mandated to provide assistance to local government units and other members of society in effectively implementing programs, projects and services that will alleviate poverty and empower disadvantaged individuals, families and communities for an improved life.

Under the program, a worker usually receives P323.50 in daily wage. The work that is usually rendered include digging, dredging, de-silting of canals and drainages, planting of trees, reforestation, clearing pathways, shelter/facilities repair, demolition of illegal structure, clearing of debris, garbage collecting, installing of support facilities, and hauling of food and non-food i t em s.

The DSWD said that the program aims to help indigents get cash in exchange for cleaning premises, rehabilitation of canals, road clean-ups and assistance in development works that are within their skill level.

The DSWD added the cash-for-work project is a short-term intervention for farmers and indigents and their families who are distressed and in need of assistance.

The beneficiaries are generally identified through the DSWD’s National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction survey, which also serves as basis for the Pantawid Pamilya and social pension programs.

The program aims to generate temporary employment and provide income augmentation to indigents, small-scale farmers and fisherfolk, as well as those affected by disasters and emergencies, and encourage community participation in implementing community-defined projects and prepare them for emergency, hunger mitigation and food security initiat i ves.
