CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— The Teachers Education Academy (TEA) will provide a second series of lectures on campus journalism on August 29 to 30 at the University of the Assumption here.

This is following TEA’s recent successful campus journalism workshop for campus paper advisers, teachers and students. The second series of lectures will again include news writing and copy reading along with topics like collaborative desktop publishing, radio broadcasting, lay-outing, science writing, feature writing, feature writing, photo journalism, sports writing and television broadcasting.

The event is open to teachers and students. The sessions will be held parallel with the sessions of the teachers and students.

The event dubbed “The Press Briefing” is a training for student paper advisers and coaches in preparation for the upcoming competitions in the upcoming cluster, district, division and regional and national press conference competitions in high school and elementary levels. The hosting of such competitions are pursuant to Republic Act No. 7079, otherwise known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991.

In line with this, TEA aims to provide a more rigorous training program for teacher coaches in handling and training their respective student writers. The training sessions include copy-reading and headline writing, “pag-uulo at pagwawasto ng sipi,” science reporting, and feature writing.

The event will also include a training on opinion writing, a new category in this year’s competitions. There will also be a bonus lecture on tips and training programs that could be employed on students for them to win in the various levels of the competition.
