2nd district schools to battle it out in Cluster 8 confab this Aug. 1-3

PORAC— Saint Catherine Academy (SCA) of Porac, an archdiocesan private school, will play host to this year’s Cluster Schools Press Conference which will bring students from all private high schools in Pampanga’s second district to battle it out in the different campus journalism categories from August 1 to 3.

SCA’s own student writers will compete against students from Santa Rita College, Dominican School, Guagua National Colleges, GNC Mont essor i ,

Maccim Royal Academy, Saint Augustine Academy, Santa Cruz Academy of Lubao, among others. The said schools form Cluster 8 for private schools in Pampanga’s second district.

The competition will be held for three days. August 1 will feature all the individual categories like news writing, copy-reading and headline writing, opinion writing, cartooning, editorial writing, feature writing, science writing, sports writing, photo journalism and sports writing.

August 2 and 3 will host the group categories of radio broadcasting and collaborative desktop publishing.

Winners who would qualify for the division level will be competing with other private as well as public schools. Winners will be able to represent their province in the regional level. Regional level winners are then fielded to the national competition. The yearly conferences are part of the provisions of the Campus Journalism Act of 1991 that aims to promote campus journalism through establishment of campus papers and honing of student journalists through training and competitions.
