Drug suspect killed in shootout with cops Mendoza to launch Ma’Rosa in Clark

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A suspect listed as the No.1 drug personalit­y of Barangay San Agustin here was killed in a shootout with police during an anti-drug operation on Monday.

Levi buy-bust operation against the suspect along Greenhills Village in Barangay San Agustin, and upon sensing that he was dealing with lawmen, he tried to escape onboard a motorcycle. When cornered, the suspect immediatel­y drew his gun and fired towards the police officers.

Recovered from the suspect were four spent shells, one cal .38 revolver loaded with two empty shells and two live ammunition for cal. 38, seven heat-sealed transparen­t plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, two heatsealed plastic sachets containing suspected marijuana leaves, three plastic sachets containing suspected shabu residue, improvised marijuana pipe, weighing scale and P500 marked money.

MABALACAT CITY — World-renowned independen­t film director Brillante Mendoza, who was born in San Fernando Pampanga, is set to launch his Ma’ Rosa film at SM City Clark on August 17.

Venus M. Manalang, SM City Clark public relations manager, said the launching will be held at 4 pm inside the mall’s The Event Center 3.

The Brillante Mendoza Film Festival has set the launching at SM City Clark to share with the Kapampanga­ns the film which earned internatio­nal awards.

Ma’Rosa is a 2016 Filipino drama film directed by Mendoza. It was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

At Cannes, Jaclyn Jose won the award for Best Actress.

The movie was also selected as the Filipino entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.

Ma’Rosa cast includes Jose as Rosa, Julio Diaz as Nestor, Baron Geisler as Sumpay, Jomari Angeles as Erwin, Neil Ryan Sese as Olivarez, Mercedez Cabral as Linda, Andi Eigenmann as Raquel, Mark Anthony Fernandez as Castor, Felix Roco as Jackson, Mon Confiado as Sanchez, and Maria Isabel Lopez as Tilde.

Manalang said that local officials were invited to grace the Brillante Mendoza Film Festival.

In the film story, Ma’Rosa (Jose) has four children and she owns a small convenient store in a poor neighborho­od.

To make both ends meet, Rosa and her husband, Nestor (Diaz) resell small amount of drugs until they were arrested by corrupt cops.

Rosa’s kids did everything to buy their parents freedom from the corrupt policemen.
